At present there is no standard route for students wishing to train as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist. See the proposed criteria for recognition and registration as a therapist submitted by the psychological therapist’s forum to the Department of Health and Children at www.iacp.ie under Submission on the Statutory Registration of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Ireland.

While we cannot guarantee that undertaking an approved/recognised course or following the proposed criteria will provide eligibility to registration, it would seem to us to be the best positioning of yourself in preparation for the future route towards statutory regulation and registration.
